The Jaimie Anderson Parliamentary Internship is pleased to announce that Shaw Communications has entered into a multi-year agreement to become Presenting Sponsor of our annual fundraising event at the Black Sheep Inn.
Shaw’s decision to become our top-level sponsor for 2013 and 2014, with the option to renew, was initiated by the late Charles King, previously Shaw’s Vice President of Government Relations and by Chief Marketing Officer Jim Little. Both individuals had experience working on Parliament Hill earlier in their careers.
The Jaimie Anderson Parliamentary Internship was started to honour the memory of Jaimie Anderson, who passed away at the age of 23, of neuroendocrine cancer. Jaimie enjoyed a love of politics and worked on Parliament Hill and came from a family with deep roots in politics.
Since the Internship was launched in 2010, it has experienced broad support by the political, media and business communities. Each summer, the program provides young Canadians with paid internships in the offices of federal Members of Parliament. To date, MPs Justin Trudeau, Chris Alexander, James Rajotte, Michele Rempel, Dominic LeBlanc, Nathan Cullen, Marc Garneau and Megan Leslie have welcomed Jaimie Anderson Interns into their offices.
“The Jaimie Anderson Parliamentary Internship program provides a unique opportunity for exemplary youth from across the country to become involved on Parliament Hill in an extraordinary way,” said Peter Bissonnette, President, Shaw Communications. “We are proud to work with and support the Parliamentary Internship program to help inspire and engage the next generation of politicians and government representatives.”
“Shaw’s decision to offer support at this unprecedented level for this Internship is enormously appreciated. It will help more young people become engaged in politics in a positive way. Shaw’s contribution adds momentum to the remarkable growth of this program, which enjoys support from so many leading companies and associations, people who work in and around politics and in the news media,” said Bruce Anderson, co-chair of the Internship.
